Tips and Tricks for WhatsApp That You Didn’t Know

Who doesn’t know about WhatsApp, an app that was considered as one of the most popular instant messaging service in the world. You probably used it every single day to chat with your friend and family.

But you probably didn’t know that there are lots of tips and tricks that you can do with this app, in order to bring you a much better and fun experience.

Tips and Tricks for WhatsApp That You Didn’t Know

1. Keep WhatsApp secure

Keep the conversation you have in your WhatsApp from prying eyes by using a specific security apps that is widely available in the market. This type of app will help you to create passcode to access WhatsApp in your phone.

2. WhatsApp notification in your PC

If you use PC a lot and want to get WhatsApp notification while you work with your PC, then you need to have an add-on on Chrome browser installed in your PC, called WAToolkit. Here is step by step on how you can use this add-on:

  • Get WhatsApp Web installed in your PC
  • Open WhatsApp Web, then go to Options > Notifications and check the “Desktop Alerts” option
  • Get the WAToolkit Chrome browser extension installed
  • Check the “Background notification” option in WAToolkit Options window

3. Arrange who can see your information on WhatsApp

When you look at a contact in your WhatsApp contact list, you will be able to see the information about that person such as Last Seen and Profile Photo. Other people can do the same thing with your information, and you actually can keep it private by following these steps:

  • Open your WhatsApp
  • Choose Options icon
  • Choose Settings > Account > Privacy
  • You will find the options of Last Seen, Profile Photo and Status. You can set the visibility on each options from Everyone, My Contacts or Nobody, depend on what you want

4. Make a shortcut for favorite chats right in your homescreen

There is an easy way to go straight into your favorite chats with a specific person or a group without have to open WhatsApp and browse between the long lists of contacts in there. You can create a shortcut directly from your smartphone homescreen by:

  • Open WhatsApp and choose “Chats” tab
  • Choose the conversation you want to create a shortcut by tap and hold it
  • There will be a list of options appear and all you need to do is choose “Add conversation shortcut

5. Set the Blue Ticks

Blue Ticks mean that the message is already read by the receiver. You can change this by go to Settings > Account > Privacy > Uncheck the “Read receipts” option

6. Change Font Size

Get a bigger or smaller font size in your WhatsApp conversation by go to Settings > Chats and calls > Font Size > choose between Small, Medium and Large.

7. Restore Deleted Message

If you accidentally delete any message in your WhatsApp conversation, you can restore it by uninstall WhatsApp and then re-install it again. WhatsApp backed the message every day at 4am, means that you can recover your lost and deleted message for the day before. WhatsApp will notify that it’s found a backup when you re-install the app again.

8. Mute and stop receiving notifications from a group

If you find that you don’t want to be bother by receiving notifications from a group in your WhatsApp for every couple of minutes, you can try to mute it and stop receiving any notification from it. Here is how you can do it:

  • Open WhatsApp
  • Choose Chats tab
  • Choose the group you want to stop receiving notification from it
  • When the group has open, choose Options icon
  • Select Mute
  • You can choose to mute from the group for either 8 hours, 1 week or even 1 year. You also can check or uncheck the “Show Notification” box to set whether you want to get notifications or not from the same group

9. Backup WhatsApp with external memory

When you use a new smartphone, you can transfer the data and conversation of your WhatsApp from the old phone to the new one by using Google Drive backups. But if you can’t or don’t want to use it, then you can use external memory such as microSD card to transfer and create backup chats from your old phone. Here is how you can do it:

  • Placed the microSD card into your old phone
  • Open your WhatsApp
  • Go to Settings > Chats and Calls > Chats Backup
  • In the new page, choose Back Up. This action will back up the entire chats to Google Drive and also to the phone’s SD card
  • Remove the microSD card and placed it into your new phone
  • Install WhatsApp in the new phone and it will detect the backup data and asked you to restore it

10. Eliminate WhatsApp image from Camera gallery

In order to make it neater, you can eliminate the picture you get from your WhatsApp from other picture you have in your Camera gallery. Here is how to do it:

  • Install a file explorer app and then open it
  • Go to SD Card/WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Images
  • Or go to Internal Storage/WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Images depend on your settings
  • Create new folder and name it as .nomedia
